Strawbale

Straw bale construction has enjoyed an unprecedented revival during the last 15 years and promises to be a viable option for the future. The reasons are many:

Straw is an annually renewable resource and much of it is wasted or burned causing air pollution.

Straw can replace over half the wood used in a house and a strawbale wall has an extremely high R value, making it excellent insulation for heating and cooling your home. By building with straw, you lower your fuel bills and contribute less to global warming.

Straw bale construction is very forgiving and user friendly. Given time, patience and determination anyone can do it.

Straw bale walls are beautiful. The most common and complimentary remark I hear from people who come to look at my house is, "it feels so good, why is that?" The answer is simply that straw bale walls are inherently thick, the window sills being large and deep, and hand plastered giving the walls a very human friendly look and feel.

Through the straw bale revival thousands of people have not only built their dream home, but been introduced to and become a part a growing community of people sewn together by this hopeful and sustainable building fabric.
